This weekend we went to Ely to meet up with Chloe’s Mum & Jonathan as we’ve not seen them since they came to Norwich back at the start of August. It was a lovely day and we all had a nice time wandering round the market:
and by the river:
And on the way home we saw a beautiful sunset:
All in all a great day.
Yesterday we had a day of DIY to get a few things tidied up, this included painting over the mess where the old gas fire was in the dining room and painting wood and pipes in the bathroom to get it all finished off nicely. We managed to get it all done and things look so much better for having done so. We just need to get the mirror up and the actualt bathroom door painted and we’ll finally have a completely finished bathroom. Hooray! It’s only taken just over a year!
Speaking of which we have now been in our house for a year, in which time the following has happened:
Our bedroom stripped & decorated
Front room partially painted
Dining room painted (and then again a few months later)
Bee’s nursery painted and filled with toys and clothes
A new boiler and radiators fitted
Lean-to re-roofed
New Sofas
Bee was born!
Bathroom flat-roof replaced
Bathroom ripped out and new one put in.
All that’s left to do now is:
Buy a mantelpiece for the dining room
Get the front room ceiling smoothed over and a nice light fitted
Strip and decorate the spare room
And then the house will finally be just how we want it.
We have returned from our week long holiday at the Anfi resort in Gran Canaria. It was hot
and relaxing and altogether great and it’s a bit rubbish to be back to normal and back to work so quickly.
So, what did we get up to?
Lots of sunbathing.
Swimming in pools.
Swimming in the sea.
Taking Bee into the sea for the first time (she loved it).
Taking Bee swimming in pools (which she also loved).
Eating out every night.
Getting a fantastic meal at the resort’s steak restaurant for free.
Reading by the pool.
Taking lots of photos
Visting Puerto Rico and almost buying a Canon 350D for £40-50 off but then deciding not to (and passing up the opportunity to buy one of these for €110. D’oh!)
Going to Mogan on a glass-bottomed boat and seeing lots of fish.
Having a brilliant three course meal for free.
Some other stuff too that I can’t quite remember at the moment, suffice to say we all had a great time.
Before the holiday. Just a quick one to say I went to my first Norwich flickr meet today which was very good, it was interesting to put names to faces and all that.
One thing I forgot to mention about yesterday was visiting an exhibit in Blackfriar’s Hall, from where this picture came….
Part of the Of All The People In All The World: UK exhibit at Blackfriars Hall, this pile of rice represents one grain of rice for everyone in sub-Saharan Africa that is HIV positive. It was the largest pile in the room.
Today we ventured into the city to buy some last minutes items for the holiday and to go see some of the Heritage Open Days stuff. Fortunately (and also just in time for holiday) my camera arrived home yesterday so off I went to take some pictures.
Obviously, there was a lot on so we tended to visit just the things near us or of particular interest and accessibility. Mostly this was churches. However we also went to the old Ice Skating Rink, now home to a shop selling all manner of Oriental goods and the like, it’s very nice old building and has so much stuff in it you could be in there for a while. It would have been nice to do more but quite a lot required you to book in advance and with Bee that’s not really too feasible. Still, I enjoyed what we saw and found it all quite interesting.
So, anyway, flying out on Monday and doubt I’ll get to post before then so bye for now!
After an oddly enjoyable lunchtime taking pictures of postboxes yesterday (no, really). I then found this article on the Evening News website that estimates there’s 20 or so “vandalised” postboxes in the golden triangle. Easily the best part of the article (other than an interview with excellent sub-Postmaster Malcolm) is the quotes from the 74 year old woman:
“I think it was teenagers. These people have always got to get up to something.”
Amazing. It’s like they went round to the local old lady that spits out clichés. One imagine she followed up with talk of how “It wasn’t like this in our day!” and “Course, I remember when it was all fields round here”
