Fortnight of Fun: Day Fourteen

Ely

And so we come to an end with a trip to our usual meeting spot for Chloe’s family at Ely. We walked around enjoying the sunshine, the girls went on the park, we had a meal at Prezzo’s, we found a geocache and then returned home.

Tomorrow I’m back to work and leave the Fortnight of Fun™ behind. I’ve had a wonderful time off and am very glad we decided not to go away. For one it saved us money but also got us out and about enjoying Norfolk’s attractions with very little stress and worry over what to do/where to go. The weather was excellent for the first week and somewhat rubbish the second but we still managed to have a good time, even if it did mean changing our plans.

So long Fortnight of Fun™ I’ll miss you.

Festival of the Eel

Yesterday we visited Ely, because a) it’s great, b) to see Chloe’s family and c) the Festival of the Eel was on. Also the weather was in good form making it a glorious day to be out and about. Bee certainly enjoyed herself, running around the parks and green spaces chasing ducks and the evil Ely birds whilst shouting “Duck!” over and over again much to the amusement of ourselves and passers-by.

Not updated in a while, mostly through laziness. Oh well.

This Sunday we went to sunny Ely again to see Chloe’s Mum, Taryn, Jonathan and his brother Sean. The day didn’t start off too well though as we arrived at the train to find it was standing room only due to an earlier train that was cancelled. Also the air conditioning was broken. It was very hot and not very fun. Things improved immesurably though once we arrived in Ely, it was nowhere near as hot as the train and there was the added benefit of shade and sitting so we had a lovely time. We visited the cathedral once again and wandered along the river and had lunch at the pub we visited previously. After all that we fed the ducks (well, Geese and Swans mailnly but there were a couple of ducks) and ambled along and watched a brass band play in one of the parks. Before too long it was time to return home and, oh dear, the train was standing room only again but this time the air conditioning was working and it was nowhere near as busy. Also we weren’t asked to pay on either journey so had a free trip to Ely and back!

In other events Chloe and I each purchased some Crocs, what are Crocs I hear you bellow? Well dear reader they’re crazy shoes made of cell resin that weigh barely anything and are very comfortable. Witness:

As for our lovely daughter, Bee is now in her cot in the nursery and has slept through the night on two occassions the past few nights so that’s an excellent sign. She’s also learning to blow raspberries and make an odd puckery sound which makes us laugh lots.

Eels

Today we visited the island of Eels or Ely as it’s known these days. The purpose of said trip was to meet up with Chloe’s family somewhere other than Cambridge which we’ve got a bit bored with as it’s full of twats whenever we go (and probably when we don’t go too). We had a lovely day, fed Bee in a park, wandered round the massive cathedral, had a cup of tea in the Cathedral cafe, wandered round town, had a pub lunch by the river and then home. We all had a lovely time but it seemed to fly by too fast.
