This weekend we went to Ely to meet up with Chloe’s Mum & Jonathan as we’ve not seen them since they came to Norwich back at the start of August. It was a lovely day and we all had a nice time wandering round the market:

Stained Glass

and by the river:

Swan

And on the way home we saw a beautiful sunset:

Dereham Road Sunset

All in all a great day.

Yesterday we had a day of DIY to get a few things tidied up, this included painting over the mess where the old gas fire was in the dining room and painting wood and pipes in the bathroom to get it all finished off nicely. We managed to get it all done and things look so much better for having done so. We just need to get the mirror up and the actualt bathroom door painted and we’ll finally have a completely finished bathroom. Hooray! It’s only taken just over a year!

Speaking of which we have now been in our house for a year, in which time the following has happened:

Our bedroom stripped & decorated
Front room partially painted
Dining room painted (and then again a few months later)
Bee’s nursery painted and filled with toys and clothes
A new boiler and radiators fitted
Lean-to re-roofed
New Sofas
Bee was born!
Bathroom flat-roof replaced
Bathroom ripped out and new one put in.

All that’s left to do now is:

Buy a mantelpiece for the dining room
Get the front room ceiling smoothed over and a nice light fitted
Strip and decorate the spare room

And then the house will finally be just how we want it.

Hodgeheg

Last night, as I was vainly attempting to call in our idiotic cats I noticed a dark shape sat near the garden which I though could be a hegehog so I ran and got a torch and called Chloe and we ventured out to take a look. And lo and behold it was indeed a hegehog, Beezle was sniffing him and then he ran off and Beezle meandered after him. We have named him Cyril. I hope he comes back.

Summer is here at last and now it’d gone from being so cold we needed the heating on last week to sleeping with the window open to cool us down. Hooray for the manic British weather!

The weaning of Bean continues apace and with ever more colourful and interesting foods (beetroot and carrot, yum). She definitely has a sweet tooth as she’ll turn herself away from savoury stuff after a while but would probably eat enough fruit puree to keep a grocer in business for a year. All of which has contributed to her now being over a stone in weight! She’s 14lb 8oz to be exact and has almost doubled in weight since her birth. She’s getting big.

As for Pickle and myself we’ve been taking things easy, the bathroom suite is due to be delivered Friday so we’ll just be waiting on our builder to start in July before that can all be taken care of. We’ve been doing some gardening and destroying nature which was fun and has made our garden look a lot bigger. It also hopefully means the grass will grow a bit better near the shed. Listen to me, talking about my daughter, gardening and home renovations. I am officially old.

The World Cup starts tomorrow but I suspect we’ll be missing England’s first game and sneaking off to the beach to enjoy the sunshine while everyone’s watching the game. We are devious.

More amusing photos of Bean with the best nappy ever and also some mess:

As Marvin Gaye once sang. And the answer is: nothing massively interesting but things are good. We’ve got Bean in a proper nightime routine now and she goes off to bed at 7, feeds at 10 and 2 and then wakes around 7 which is excellent and means both Chloe and I are getting a lot more sleep. Hooray! Aside from that we’ve been working on getting stuff for our bathroom renovation which so far extends to tiles and we think we’ve found a suite we like too so that’s coming on. Also our horrible front door is also up for removal once we can agree on what style of door to get.

In other news Chloe’s Mum and Tyler are coming up for a few days from Sunday which should be good.

Oh, and the Bean has her own site now at http://web.mac.com/jim_taylor/iWeb/Bee/

Yes. Things are well in the Manka-Taylor household, Bee is sleeping well at nights, going down around 7 and sleeping through till 1 and then sleeping again till 5 but we’re trying to move that a bit later so she wakes up at 7ish with mixed results(!) Our cats are going out everyday now and aren’t beaing anywhere near as rubbish which is brilliant. The re-usable nappies are working out well and are proving to be nowhere near as hard work as everyone said. In a further push to make ourselves hippies Chloe obtained some “soap nuts” which are a seed that you bung in with your washing which clean “as well as” washing powder. We’vew used them on the nappies so far and they seem to do the trick which is pretty cool. We’ve also stepped up the bread making at home of late and haven’t bought a loaf for a month or so now. We’ve even started making our own rolls which have so far been delicious. God, we’re so middle class.

Waking up

Today we were awake and out of bed by 8. By 10 we’d eaten breakfast, put a load of washing in, washed up, done some gardening and started getting stuff ready for lunch. Sometimes getting up early is fun. Especially when you wake up to this:
