Out and About

Today we ventured into the city to buy some last minutes items for the holiday and to go see some of the Heritage Open Days stuff. Fortunately (and also just in time for holiday) my camera arrived home yesterday so off I went to take some pictures.

Obviously, there was a lot on so we tended to visit just the things near us or of particular interest and accessibility. Mostly this was churches. However we also went to the old Ice Skating Rink, now home to a shop selling all manner of Oriental goods and the like, it’s very nice old building and has so much stuff in it you could be in there for a while. It would have been nice to do more but quite a lot required you to book in advance and with Bee that’s not really too feasible. Still, I enjoyed what we saw and found it all quite interesting.

So, anyway, flying out on Monday and doubt I’ll get to post before then so bye for now!

Collateral Damage

After an oddly enjoyable lunchtime taking pictures of postboxes yesterday (no, really). I then found this article on the Evening News website that estimates there’s 20 or so “vandalised” postboxes in the golden triangle. Easily the best part of the article (other than an interview with excellent sub-Postmaster Malcolm) is the quotes from the 74 year old woman:

“I think it was teenagers. These people have always got to get up to something.”

Amazing. It’s like they went round to the local old lady that spits out clichés. One imagine she followed up with talk of how “It wasn’t like this in our day!” and “Course, I remember when it was all fields round here”
