This is how it began:

It Begins
At this point we panicked that the marquee, described as “big” by the marquee erection (tee hee!) people was actually too small. However once it was up and populated our fears were mostly alleviated. I still think a slightly larger marquee would have been “better” but that would probably have cost a lot more money too!

My Mum made us lots of bunting in our official wedding colours:

The friendly neighbourhood farmer made a bridge for us from the car park to the orchard:

Our “head” table, lacking in favours and glasses but with some big letters instead:

The mighty Pom-poms:

Row of Pom-poms
A crack team of engineers friends and family worked all night making these but with me as their instructor and leader success was well assured.

Here’s a pile of all of the pom-poms after they were taken down:

Favours:
Thanks

Chloe and the girls baked, Chloe iced, I bagged and Chloe tied. We had brownies and sugar cookies and they both tasted very good indeed (it took a long time to bag and tie them and I got hungry, OK?)

Centrepieces:

The jars were ordered ages ago, they were filled with paper hearts cut from books and magnetic poetry.

More Centrepieces
(Random) books were added to “cement” the centrepieces.

Top Down
These flowers were placeholders for the sunflowers which only arrived with us after the ceremony. Oh, look here they are:

Stones “borrowed” from various Norfolk and Suffolk beaches and decorated by my amazing wife. They will be returned, honest!

Us!
We had a photo timeline showing us two as children and then documenting our time together along with pictures of family and friends, it worked very well and drew a lot of comments as we hoped it would.

The timeline also doubled as space for the comment cards we asked people to write/doodle on:

I worried people wouldn’t fill them out but we had quite a selection by the end of the evening.

My second surprise of the day:
Chocolate Fountain!!!
Chocolate Fountain!
We had a chocolate fountain! This pleased me no end. It was very popular, especially the profiteroles.

“So throw those curtains wide.
One day like this a year’d see me right.”

It’s hard to describe our wedding, even though it just happened. There are so many things I want to talk about and say so I suspect there’ll be a “How did they do that” style post later. Now it’s all about the event. Words appear to be escaping me at the moment so random factoids are the way to go. Photos will follow later…

  • The marquee layout was not how we originally envisaged it, leading to much worry and discussion however in the end I think it all worked very well and probably better than our original plans.
  • We worked on the marquee almost solidly for two days in one way or another
  • I was nervous and thus all I had eaten prior to the service was 5/6ths of a cheese roll. My breakfast Double Sausage Egg McMuffin had to be binned :(
  • I had worn a cravat once before at my Sister’s wedding and had no idea how to actually tie one. I found a YouTube video that seemed easy to follow and had a quick go two days before the wedding with a view to re-watching on the day. However the internet connection in Topcroft was dead on Saturday morning so I had to tie it from memory. I think I did OK :)
  • Chloe’s dress came as a big surprise. I had my suspicions that her dress was not the green/turquoise Monsoon ball-gown style dress she had originally bought but thought if anything it’d be a turquoise wedding dress so the sight that greeted me at the end of the aisle left me speechless (to say the least).
  • Chloe picked all the music during the service, I think it went down well despite being a tad different – especially the entrance music (a remix of “You Got the Love” by Candi Staton). We had concerns the timings wouldn’t work but forunately Bee and Miri took a good while walking down the aisle so it actually worked perfectly.
  • The chocolate fountain was another surprise, this one didn’t leave me in tears but did result in a big smile on my face (and chocolate down my suit!)
  • We elected to go the double-barrelled route a long time ago, back before Bee was born and we were contemplating names for her. Both children are Manka-Taylors so it seemed logical for us to follow suit
  • The cake was truly amazing, made by Chloe’s Aunt Tina, she’d never made a wedding cake before and she truly excelled herself, even if it did take two people to lift it!

It truly was one of the most amazing days of my life and I can’t stop replaying it and smiling to myself.

Betrothed

It’s been rather quiet on the old blog front of late, mostly due to wedding planning and preparation eating up all my free time leaving only room for the occasional Tweet. But now it’s all said and done. I’m now Mr. Manka-Taylor and have gained a truly beauteous and wondrous wife. Go team me!

A bigger update with pictures will come in time but for now I am full of cake and need sleep.
